Alice Eddy Obituary

Alice (Eishen) (Martin) Eddy

Jan 2, 1945 - Mar 15, 2023

Huron

Alice Josephine Eddy, 78, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, after a lengthy health battle.

She was the first baby born in 1945 in Sandusky on Jan. 2. Alice graduated from Sandusky High School in 1963. She was a member of A Cappella Choir and had a column in the school paper called "Eavesdropping with Eishen." She went on to The Ohio State University and finished her degree in Education at Mary Manse College in Toledo in 1967. Alice became a teacher at her alma mater, Sandusky City Schools, where she taught for 35 years. She was known for her Johnny Appleseed celebration, planting trees on Earth Day, reading auctions, letters from England, songs for every occasion, and much more. Alice won "Teacher of the Year" award for the 1989-1990 school year. She was loved and admired by so many students and colleagues and enjoyed staying connected with them throughout her life. Her letters from England was featured on DEL'S Folks, with Del Donahoo on TV Station WKYC in Cleveland.

She loved the simple things in life. Alice enjoyed feeding her birds, planting flowers, going for drives, decorating for Christmas, and spending time with her loved ones. She also loved traveling with her husband, a couple of trips to Florida, spent two weeks in New England seeing the fall foliage, Flight 93 Memorial, seeing the shows in Branson, Missouri, and many one-day trips! Throughout her whole life, she kept in touch with her third-grade teacher, Mrs. Margaret Kaufman Beard, and on two trips to Florida, was able to visit with her. She adored children, especially her beautiful grandchildren. Alice deeply loved her family and researching her lineage so that the history of the family could be shared with future generations.

Alice is survived by her husband, Charles "Chuck" Eddy, of Huron; children, Christopher (Sarah) Martin of Columbus, Elisabeth (Alexander Poznanski) Martin of Fremont, and Alison (Donald) Gregory of Lakewood; grandchildren, Anna Josephine, Audrey Lucille, Ameila Grace, and Ruby Lucille; stepchildren, Daniel (Sherry) Eddy of North Ridgeville, Elizabeth Eddy of Lorain, and William (Erin) Eddy of Champaign, Illinois; stepgrandchildren, Stella and Everett; sisters, Carol Stein, Jane Schwab, Deborah Zimmer, and Arlene (Floyd) Strohl; nine loving nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Paul and Anne Eishen; and loving granny, Grace Bolinger Slessman.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A celebration of life will be 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

I was saddened to see that Alice had passed away and I am sorry for the family's loss.
Alice and I were in Mr. Seaman's math class together during her senior year at SHS. She and I would banter back and forth on innocuous subjects which we knew nothing about but sounded as if we knew everything.
Mr. Seaman would let us ramble for 5-10 minutes with the rest of the class in stitches.
Rest her soul.

To all of Alice's family, especially those that I know through having taught at Venice Heights and Hancock Elementary Schools: her children-Alison, Elisabeth, and Chris, her sister, Carol Stein, and her niece, Lauren Zimmer. I am deeply sorry for your loss and pray that God grant you the comfort, strength, and peace needed at this time of sorrow. However, I cannot help but smile and laugh when I remember fondly, the "Don't I remind you of you when you were a little girl, Miss Talley?"-The Alison/Khaisha story; the Madonna "Like A Virgin"-Elisabeth story; the many retiree lunch gatherings; and most recently, our new little grandbabies. Blessings abound; continue to recognize them. My love and prayers are with you--Mrs. Cheryl Talley-Sharp (Venice Heights and Hancock Elementary Schools)
