Amos Downing Obituary

Amos S. Downing

Oct 11, 1970 - Jul 13, 2023

Berlin Heights

Amos S. Downing, 52, of Berlin Heights, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his home.

He was born Oct. 11, 1970, in Norwalk, to Gerald "Jerry' Downing and Erin "Gail" (Davidson) Bartle.

Amos graduated in 1989 from Norwalk High School. He was employed as a machinist at Alco Manufacturing in Elyria where he met his mentor and close friend of 30 years, Bill Urbanski. Amos was known for his big smile, huge heart, and willingness to help others. His pride and joy were his sons, Amos "Wyatt" and Simon. He shared his passion and knowledge of hunting and fishing with them. He enjoyed watching and supporting his boys in their adventures. Amos enjoyed following all Cleveland professional sports teams, especially the Browns. He loved having pets throughout his life and leaves behind his beloved fat cat, Frankie, that acts more like a dog than a feline.

Amos is survived by his sons, Amos (Wyatt) and Simon Downing; mother, Erin "Gail" (William) Bartle of Norwalk; father, Jerry Downing; sister, Erin Leah (Dirk "Duke" Horwedel) Downing; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Amos was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam "Grandad" and Wilma Davidson, Esther Bartle and Wayne Heidt, and Ma Stoll; and loving stepmother, Betty Downing.

Visitation for friends will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Toft Funeral Home, Hinman Chapel, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights, and 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, until the time of Amos' service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights.
