Bettie Louise Kane, 89, a longtime resident of Sandusky, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Mayfair House in Portsmouth, Virginia, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Bettie was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Fremont, to Carlton and Mary (Spitler) Gruver.
Bettie graduated from Green Springs High School. She was employed as a clerk at Sears & Roebuck and owned and operated Clear Water Pools with her husband. Bettie was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ and volunteer at the Senior Center. She enjoyed Card Club, dartball, and dancing. Bettie was beloved by her family, who will miss her spirit and the competitive bingo games that she loved during holidays with family.
Bettie is survived by her son, Edward (Cathy) Kane of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Laurie (Kane) Caughell of Norfolk, Virginia; sister, Joanne Calderon of Mentor; grandchildren, Brent Kane of Mason, Carlie Kane of Knoxville, Tennessee, Leslie Hipps of Norfolk, Virginia, and Justin Caughell of Norfolk, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, James, and Madeline; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, Louis Edward Kane.
Visitation for friends will be 12 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, until the time of Bettie's funeral at 1 p.m. at Meadow Green Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2602 Bogart Road, Huron, Ohio, 44839. Pastor Wally Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
Those wishing to contribute to Bettie's memory may do so by donating to Alzheimer's Association to care for those suffering from the disease and to support research into new treatments.
