Betty Lou (Hawkens) Yakopovich, 88, of Vickery, passed away late Thursday afternoon, December 11, 2025, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.

Born March 16, 1937, in Little Brownfield, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Russell and Betty (Beal) Hawkens. She had worked at Meijer in Sandusky in the bakery and deli department and at Fred's Cafe for several years before retiring.

Over the years, Betty loved playing bingo and going to the casinos.

She was a member and past president of AMVETS Post No. 17 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of American Legion Post No. 83 Ladies Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike T. Yakopovich, whom she married June 23, 1984; her two sons, Bill and Bob Tate; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two stepsons, Mike (Donna) and David Yakopovich; and her four-legged "Buddies," Austin and Yaky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Sue and Betty Tate; two sons, Paul and Russ Tate; a stepdaughter, Debra Davis; and her three brothers, Jim, Wilbert and Lester Hawkens.

It was her wish to be cremated. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be at a later date at AMVETS Post No. 17 in Sandusky.

She will be interred at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
