Buddy Day Obituary

Buddy Allen Day

Aug 26, 1934 - Nov 30, 2024

Castalia

Buddy Allen Day, 90, of Castalia, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Ohio Veterans Home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Frankfort, Indiana, to James and Sarah (Sipples) Day. He was raised in Indiana and worked on the farm before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp at the age of 17. Buddy proudly served his country in Okinawa, Japan, Korea, California, and Rhode Island. During his time in Rhode Island, he met his wife, Thomasina, and they were married July 22, 1957.

He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Buddy was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where he served in many capacities over the years. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with animals, especially his cats. Buddy was known as a faithful servant, always helping those in need. He especially loved to help his granddaughters with anything they needed and was very active in all their events growing up including 4-H, FFA, and their horse-showing adventures. Known to them as "Pappaw," he was their biggest cheerleader and faithful supporter. He served as a member of the Marine Corps Forever Honor & Color Guard for many years during his retirement and could be seen all over at community events. Buddy was a proud Marine.

Buddy is survived by his son, John (Sandra) Day; grandchildren, Tina Green, Tamee Schwarz, and Troy Day; great-grandchildren, Madison Jenkins, Riley Schwarz, Abigayle Green, and Brayden Green; great-great-child, Kable Jenkins; sister-in-law, Audrey Day; godchild, Cindy Studer; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives; and special friend, Barb Hess, whom he enjoyed spending time with after the passing of his wife.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Thomasina Hoffman Day; daughter, Mary Day; brothers, George, Delmar, Curt, and Raymond; and sisters, Louise, Lela, Marjorie, and Roberta.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Castalia Cemetery.
