Carmel Michel Obituary

Carmel Agnes (Temper) Michel

Feb 13, 1930 - Nov 8, 2023

Sandusky

Carmel Agnes "Carm" Michel (nee Temper), 93, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, surrounded by family.

She was a loving wife of 70 years to Joseph P. Michel and a loving mother, grandma, and great-grandma. Carmel was born in Huron to Mary and Cosmos Temper. She was the youngest of 11 children in a big Italian family. Carmel grew up on the beach in Huron and passed her love of the Lake on to her children. She married Joe in 1953 and they lived in Sandusky, where they raised their five children.

Carm graduated from Huron High School in 1947. She was a registered nurse who worked at the former Providence Hospital as an assistant Head Nurse for many years before retiring to raise her family. She later worked at the former New Departure Hyatt plant as an industrial nurse when the children were grown. During her nursing career, she expressed a particular love and dedication for patients in their elder years. She participated in the early outreach and advocacy for hospice in the area.

She was a fan of scrabble, crossword puzzles, and game shows. In her younger days, she was an avid walker and attended water aerobic classes at the local YMCA. She and Joe volunteered at the local senior center. She played cards, especially bridge, in multiple clubs. She loved to cook (especially Italian food) and was creative in the dishes she shared with her family.

Carmel was a devout Catholic and dedicated member of Sandusky Saint Mary's Parish. She lived her faith in her daily life. Likewise, she had many loyal and caring friends.

Carm selflessly raised her five children and brought great joy to the lives of her eight grandchildren. She did her best to partake in their numerous academic and athletic events. She was a great cheerleader for them over the years.

The next generation of great-grandchildren brought her joy by playing at her feet with grandma's special toys and sitting in her lap for stories and finger plays.

The family would like to thank Carmel's many caregivers. They've worked faithfully in her home around the clock for the past two years. She was also showered with love and support by her immediate and extended families.

Carmel is survived by her husband, Joseph; five children, Carol (Glen) Ginesi of Huron, Larry (Joellen) Michel of Huron, Cynthia Michel of Sandusky, Ron (Roberta) Michel of Milan, and Jody (David) Pack of Perrysburg; eight grandchildren, Nathan and Schaun Ginesi, Eric, Ryan, Daniel Michel, Lauren, and Andrea Michel (Bertke), and Corina Pack; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia (Mary) and Cosmos Temper; 10 siblings, Ernest, Theodore "Ted", Peter, Lucy, Magdelene "Muffy", Adeline "Lena", Lillian, Mary "Yetta", Anne, and Teresa; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-grandchild, Gianna Marie.

Visitation for friends and family was 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, at David F. Koch Funeral & Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky. Father Phillip Feldman will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

I´m so sorry for the families loss, I believe that Cynthia was my friend when she worked as a Dj at the Steak factory in Sandusky and later was my roommate in California when she moved there in the late 70´s. If this is so I would surely like to catch up.

Ron, Roberta and all family members. Sending My deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. She was a strong woman and compassionate lady. Raising such a large family, working and keeping a home is no small feat. A wonderful Christian woman, she served her Lord well. God blessed her with 93 years here on earth and I´m sure upon being called home, the Lord said to your mom "Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant" you served me well.
