Carol J. (Schlesselman) Schnittker, 86, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

She was born Oct. 21, 1936, on Kelleys Island, to Oliver and Jeanne (Reinheimer) Schlesselman. Carol was a 1954 graduate of Kelleys Island (Estes) School. She worked for U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C., the former Sandusky Cabinets, and Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky. She was a member and dedicated organist for the former Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church, now known as Christ Community Church and was formerly a member and organist of Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church. Carol was a respected organist for 70 years, substituting for many local churches and accompanying the Kelleys Island singers for many years. She was also a member of Kelleys Island Historical Society and Kelleys Island Landowners Association.

She is survived by three sons, Paul (Jan) Schnittker of Berlin Heights, Dale (Lana) Schnittker of Sandusky, and Ron (Barbara) Schnittker of Kelleys Island; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Schnittker, Michael (Rebecca) Schnittker, Brandon (Nicole) Schnittker, Kelly (Thomas) Sims, Nicholas (Lindsay) Schnittker, Tara (Derek) Tieche, Tracy (Seth) Link, Seth Schnittker, Olivia Schnittker, and Octavia Schnittker; 19 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harry Enlow of Vermilion; sister-in-law, Sonya Schlesselman of Port St. Lucia, Florida; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2015, Robert Schnittker, whom she married Sept. 24, 1955, at Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church; parents; siblings, Miriam (William) Haynes, Ardith Enlow, and O. Henry Schlesselman; maternal grandparents, Frank and Ida Reinheimer; paternal grandparents, Henry and Bertha Schlesselman; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for friends will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Christ Community Church, formerly known as Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church, 2401 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. Carol's memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, at the church with Pastor Erin Porter officiating. Private family committal services will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Church, Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 445, Kelleys Island, Ohio, 43438, or the donor's favorite charity.
