Charlene Mae Gilliam, 91, formerly residing in Bellevue, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 25, 2025, at Central Parke Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living in Mason, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.
Charlene was born September 17, 1933, in Clay County, Missouri, to the late Charles William and Alpha Laverne (Statesel) Sams.
Charlene was employed and retired from New Departure in Sandusky, after many years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed puzzles, music and dancing, and she adored her dogs.
Charlene is survived by her two sons, James A. (Louise) Gilliam Jr. and Mark W. (Jodi) Gilliam; two daughters, Cathy S. Grove and Cheryl A. Merritt; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sibings, Frank (Dorothy) Sams, John (Gerry) Sams, and Rita (Tom) Wechter; sisters-in-law, Karen Sams and Donna Sams; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" A. Gilliam Sr., in 2009; siblings, Marie (John) Stout, Alpha Johns, Charles (Sandra) Sams, Glenna (Paul) Mullins, Earl (Florence) Sams, Louis Sams, and Gary Sams.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Meadow Green Funeral Home, 2602 Bogart Road Huron, with Pastor Tony Robinson presiding. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
