Charlene Weigel Obituary

Charlene B. Weigel

Jan 1, 1947 - Dec 15, 2023

Grapevine, TX

Charlene B. "Char" Weigel (nee Matt) passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, in Grapevine, Texas.

She was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Huron, sharing the same birthday as her father, William B. Matt. Char graduated from Huron High School in 1965 and also attended Bowling Green State University. She was then employed by Economy Savings and Loan in Norwalk. She subsequently married Rick Brown and relocated a number of times in conjunction with his employment, ending up in Grapevine, Texas. Char then worked for Verizon, retiring in 2003. They had two children, Ryan Brown (Christine) of Chicago, Illinois, and Nicole Brown.

In 1997, Char married Leroy Weigel in Grapevine, Texas. She expanded her family with Leroy's four daughters, Holly, Angela, Tracy, and Katie, and subsequently, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Nicole, blessed her with a grandson, William, and her son, Ryan, with a grandson, Sam. She has enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and bonus children immensely over the years.

She considered herself very blessed to have had two wonderful sisters, Dianne Rundell and Suzanne Matt (Larry Capucini), and loving parents. They enjoyed a wonderful childhood on Ohio Street in Huron, spending many hours and days on Lake Erie, boating in their Lyman boat and of course, on the beach. She dearly loved her niece, Tamara Haught (Bill), and great-nephew, Brandon Didion (Hillary). In addition, she loved her nephew, Dennis Bickley (LeeAnn), and great-niece, Kyra Bickley.

Char was an active member of Compass Church and had a deep faith in God. She and Leroy spent many hours in bible study and made many wonderful friends through their church. Char also maintained contact with several of her Huron classmates of the years, meeting for a long weekend in Huron in the summer. She truly enjoyed this each year.

Char was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Mary M. Matt; and brother-in-law, James Rundell.

At her request, cremation has taken place and she is with her Lord and Savior.

Services will take place in Texas with immediate family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made in Char's memory to Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Road, P.O. Box 423, Castalia, Ohio, 44824.

Nicole, we remember your mom as a very kind and caring person. Her love of family was obvious. She adored you and William! You both were so blessed to have such a wonderful Mom and Grandmother, who now is with Our Lord in Heaven, and yet still so close to you watching over you both and smiling.
Love, Kristen and Phyllis
