Charles J. "Chuck" Malone, 97, of Huron, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Born May 1, 1928, in Berlin Heights, Chuck lived a long and full life marked by quiet strength, selflessness, and deep devotion to those he loved. Too young to serve in the military during World War II, he proudly contributed on the home front, working in the Lorain shipyard building minesweepers-an early sign of the hardworking spirit that would define his life.
Chuck met the love of his life, Helen, while working at Apex. She worked in the tool crib, and he worked in sheet metal, finding every excuse to see her-often asking for more tools than he needed just to keep the conversation going. He would leave a Coke on the counter for her, small gestures that grew into a lifelong love. They were married on September 17, 1949, and shared 52 wonderful years together until Helen's passing in 2003. Together, they raised six children, and their family takes comfort in knowing that Chuck and Helen are now reunited forevermore.
A talented craftsman, Chuck owned and operated Malone Lathing and was a proud member of the Local Carpenters Union No. 2955 for 75 years. His skill, dedication, and integrity earned him deep respect within his trade and community.
Chuck was also one of the oldest members of the United Methodist Church in Huron, where he served faithfully as a trustee and donated countless hours to maintaining and improving the church he loved. Among his many acts of service was the monumental task of removing a two-ton bell from the church steeple-completed with the same quiet determination that defined his life. His service was always steady, humble, and given without expectation.
He found great joy in farming and gardening and loved watching things grow. Friends and neighbors often stopped by his vegetable stand, where his produce-and his warmth-were shared freely. He also established a wood business with his son, Charlie, a partnership that brought him pride and purpose.
A self-taught musician, Chuck mastered countless hymns on the organ, including his favorite, "Sweet Hour of Prayer." His music touched many, and on birthdays, friends and family cherished the special phone calls where he would play "Happy Birthday" just for them.
Chuck deeply valued time spent with loved ones. He took great pleasure in cooking for others and found joy in seeing people enjoy his meals. His home was the setting for countless celebrations-gatherings that reflected the heart of a man who gave generously and loved abundantly.
He approached every chapter of life with purpose and humility. Known for his sharp mind and the wisdom that came not from speaking often but from listening well, Chuck's stories-shaped by nearly a century of change-were treasures to all who heard them. His long life was a blessing, not only for the years he lived, but for the love he gave throughout them.
Chuck is survived by his children, Norma (Ron) Cook, Mary (Milt) Leber, Charlie (Sharon) Malone, Donna (George) Malone, and Doris (Alvin) Coleman; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Malone; his eldest daughter, Peggy Malone; and many other beloved relatives and friends.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be January 24, 2026, at United Methodist Church in Huron. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. service, with burial to follow at Scott Cemetery in Huron.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
