Christopher Mize Obituary

Christopher A. Mize

Jan 11, 1968 - Aug 26, 2024

Sandusky

Christopher "Chris" Mize, 56, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Aug. 26, 2024, at home.

He was born Jan. 11, 1968, in Toledo, to Marvin and Judy (Connors) Mize.

Chris, a proud 1986 graduate of Edison High School, was a talented athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball. As a dedicated member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #18, he built a respected career as a heavy equipment operator. Growing up, Chris loved to hunt and fish with his dad and brother. Later in life, his true passion was auto racing at Sandusky Speedway, where he was deeply involved and served as Vice President for many years. Early on, as a member of the safety crew, he earned the affectionate nickname "Big Banana." In addition to the racing itself, Chris cherished the camaraderie of the racing community and the thrill of the track.

Chris is survived by his parents; wife of 16 years, Debra (Poling) Mize; two sons, Chad Mize of Akron and Aaron (Kelly) Nadeau of Canal Fulton; daughter, Jennifer Nadeau of Sandusky; four grandchildren, Maliyah, Myka, Bella, and Scarlett; brother, Ted (Kim) Mize; niece, Katherine Mize of Sylvania; several cousins and other relatives; and extended family, Stephen Knapp and his children, Trinity and Lilly.

Chris' family services will be private at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Chris' celebration of life will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at Sandusky Speedway.

Those wishing to honor Chris' memory may donate to Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation at OhioSPF.org or the Chris Mize Grandchildren's Betterment Fund (not accessible until the grandchildren reach 18 years of age) on Venmo, @Chris_Mize_GBF.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Mize, Ted and family. I was truly sorry to hear of Chris's passing. I remember him well from our days of playing hockey together on my Dad's pond. He was a great kid. A gentle giant. Peace and sincere sympathy to your family.
