Clayton Keegan Obituary

Clayton Keegan, Sr.

Jun 14, 1941 - Feb 28, 2026

Vickery

Clayton Keegan, 84, of Vickery, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at The Willows at Bellevue. He was born June 14, 1941, in Sandusky, the son of the late Agnes (Franks) and Gerald Keegan.

Clayton was humble, kind, and a relentless hard worker. A lifelong farmer, he believed in earning what you have and protecting what you love. Clayton also worked 40 years for Armstrong in Bellevue.

He built his life alongside his Townsend high school sweetheart, Carol, a partnership rooted in loyalty, devotion, and shared grit. Together, they created a life defined by family, resilience, and steadfast commitment. Beneath his steady resolve was a gentle heart and a well-known sweet tooth that reminded everyone he still found joy in life's simplest pleasures.

As a young man, Clayton made his mark on the basketball court. An extraordinary athlete, he set multiple school records during his high school career, records that stood for decades. One of those records was only just broken this year. Long after the final buzzer sounded, his name remained etched in the record books, a benchmark for generations that followed. He was also a member of the 2005 Margaretta High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Not only did Clayton win on the basketball court, he also carried that same competitive spirit into the rodeos they attended on weekends - a large part of their life and shared passion. Horses were one of Clayton's greatest loves. He spent countless hours around them and rarely missed a weekend rodeo, where he felt completely at home. He had been a member of the Tri-State Rodeo Association.

But it was the family farm that truly defined him. The family farm stands as a living testament to his values and deep-rooted commitment to family - a legacy that will continue long after him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Carol Ann (Meyers) Keegan, May 2, 2023; siblings, Howard Keegan, Gerald Keegan and Virginia Balduff; and grandson-in-law, Trev Hughes.

Clayton is survived by his sons, Clayton Jr. (Cathy) Keegan of Clyde and Chris (Tracy) Keegan of Vickery; his grandchildren, Meredith (Ben) Zenner, Sarah Hughes, and Jacob (Kaitlynn) Keegan; great-grandchildren, Madison Hughes and Luke Keegan; brother, Robert (Mary) Keegan of Vickery; along with extended family and friends who will continue to honor his memory.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Auxter-Recker Funeral Home, 218 S Main St, Clyde. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Castalia Cemetery.

Memorial donations in honor of Clayton may be made to Townsend Volunteer Fire Dept.
