Constance Bunn Obituary

Constance L. Bunn

Dec 5, 1959 - Dec 7, 2024

Sandusky

Constance "Connie" L. Bunn, 65, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 7, 2024, at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.

Connie was born Dec. 5, 1959, in Fremont to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth "Betty" (Keck) Meyer. She graduated from Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in 1978, from Bowling Green State University in 1982, and later completed a master's degree from Ashland University. She was employed as an intervention specialist at Huron City Schools from 1983-2014. Following her retirement from full-time work, she taught part-time at EHOVE, after which she retired in 2022.

Connie is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Bunn, whom she married June 24, 1983. She is also survived by her daughter, Justine (Matt) Kelly of Dayton; two sons, Gregory (Maureen) Bunn of York Haven, Pennsylvania and Matthew (Danielle) Bunn of Sandusky. She had six grandchildren, Scott and Robert Kelly, Lucy, Annie and Joseph "Joey" Bunn and Connor Bunn. She hoped to meet her seventh grandchild who is due in April 2025. She is also missed by her three sisters, Cindy (Rick) Evans, Marsha (Woody) Woods and Suzy (Dean) Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ricky Meyer and Kenneth Meyer.

Connie wanted to be a mother above all things, and spent 40 years relishing this most important role. She was her children's friend, leader, and fierce supporter- they will miss her tremendously but will thrive even in her absence due to her legacy of strength and joy. Her next great pleasure was becoming a grandma, and she made everything fun for those six lucky kids. Their favorite memories are ones where she made mundane things into great adventures. They would march around the block hunting for "blue lines," the dashes on the sidewalk marked off by the water utility. A rainy day might mean a trip to the mall with a baggie full of quarters to raid the little candy machines. And the possibilities for a sunny summer afternoon were endless- trips to Cedar Point, days at the marina pool, golf cart rides for ice cream, and rock climbing around the bay. Connie loved summer, the outdoors, and the lake. She was always up for a walk, a bike ride, or a glass of wine by a campfire. While she never wasted a beautiful day, she valued rainy ones just as much - perfect opportunities to visit the library or work on a craft.

Connie had a tireless support network that she loved above all other things. Countless friends and family members dropped everything to say goodbye to her during her short time in hospice, and the week before as she celebrated her 65th birthday. Every one of them recognized her grandkids and knew their personalities from the constant stories and photos she would share. On her final day, her people were all together, and she left us as we reminded her how good a job she did: a husband by her side through the worst of the journey, three kids who are modeling her love every day in their marriages and parenting, and innumerable students and community members that she guided. Her absence will also be greatly missed by her neighbors and her many special friend groups, especially the camping group, her HHS teacher friends, and the EHOVE science crew. Her loyal and protective dog, Buddy, will grieve her always.

As much as Connie loved her family and friends, there was also boundless room in her heart for every vulnerable person she ever encountered. She would happily cuddle every baby she could get her hands on, befriend any chatty toddler, and especially had a heart for people with developmental disabilities and the elderly with dementia. She would confidently greet them and instinctively include them at their ability and love them for who they are- it made her exceptional at her career and she truly exemplified loving your work. She had no tolerance for anyone who would mock or bully a person for who they are or for trying their best.

Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday Dec. 15, 2024 at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Oh Scott, I just read this! My heart is so full. What a wonderful lady! She was a great friend and a great debater. Whether we agreed or disagreed, she was never a judge. I loved that about her. She sure put up one heck of a fight but God had other plans. I guarantee when that new baby comes Connie will make sure to holds it before anyone one else. Her family was everything to her. She never needed to say it, actions spoke louder than words! Scot, you were her soul mate and she loved you to the moon and back!Bless her heart and the rest of your family. She was my lunch buddy the last year we both worked at EHOVE. I will miss our chats and prayers. Until we hug again, Connie. R.I.P. my friend.

I believe that there are few teachers that you remember in school Mrs. Bunn was one of them for me. I hated math but she definitely helped make in easier for me to understand. She was always so kind and willing to help in anyway she could. It takes someone very special to be a teacher and Mrs. Bunn was one of them. My condolences to her family.

I was one of those chatty children that Mrs. Bunn befriended. With small children of my own and a house often filled with neighborhood kids I think of her often and how sweet and kind she was to me. My condolences to the whole family, she was a very special lady.

My husband and I met Connie and Scott a few years ago at the Towne Square in The Villages. We all immediately bonded. We went to see Connie and Scott a few weeks ago. Her love for Scott and family was very apparent. Connie had a lot of strength, courage and love for life. Connie taught us a lot about life and she will be missed dearly. Our condolences to Scott and her family. A true friend and gem to all.
