Bellevue
Cynthia McGinnis, 77, of Bellevue, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at her home. She was born September 29, 1947, in Bellevue, the daughter of Charles Dale Hofelich and Carol (Warner) Hofelich-Mestry. Cindy married Fred McGinnis, November 22, 1979, in Clyde. He preceded her in death in 2015.
Cindy, a beloved grandmother and vibrant soul, cherished her grandchildren above all, loving them dearly and creating many memories with them over the years.
Before the passing of her husband, Fred, they enjoyed taking trips to Mount Pleasant Casino and to Amish country. The holidays were a special time for Cindy, as she loved to decorate her home with her favorite Christmas decorations, many of which her husband, Fred, had made himself. Most of all, Cindy enjoyed bringing the family together during the holidays.
Known for her gift of gab, Cindy enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends.
Her spunky personality served her well throughout her life. It particularly benefitted her as the first female bartender at both VFW and Eagles, where she strategically handled patrons with charm and sarcasm.
Cindy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader and a connoisseur of game shows.
While spending time with her animals, watching TV, one of her guilty pleasures included indulging in donuts and sipping Diet Pepsi. Animals held a special place in Cindy's heart. She adored her pets, past and present, and was deeply saddened by the recent loss of her cherished Chihuahua, Rudy.
She leaves behind her devoted cats, Pesto and Abby, who brought her much comfort.
Cindy is survived by her children, Lista (Scott Smith) Stewart of Norwalk and Jerry (Sherri) Risner of Bellevue; stepchildren, David (Cindy) McGinnis of Fremont and Princetta (Dennis) Farmer of Castalia; three grandchildren, Josh Stewart, Kaden Risner, and Xavier "Mike" McGinnis; three great-grandchildren, Robert, Cory and Emma Stewart; brother, Chris Hofelich of California; and sister, Susan Meredith of Sandusky.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Stewart; sister, Cheri (Rod) Ganzhorn; and son-in-law, Perry Stewart.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her neighbors, who watched over her and provided assistance when needed over the years. Their kindness and support meant the world to her and the family.
Burial and graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at York Chapel Cemetery, with Pastor Bob Hudberg presiding. Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue, is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Rd., Castalia, OH 44824.
