Castalia
Daniel T. Brindley, 77, of Castalia, passed away Wednesday night, Nov. 13, 2024, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Sandusky, to Don and JoAnne (Buckingham) Brindley and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965. During high school, he played football and was a member of the swim team and held the record for the fastest 50-meter freestyle for many years. After graduation, he worked for Scott Paper Company from June 1965 until October 1965, when he joined U.S. Navy. He served on two air craft carriers – the USS Independence and the USS America. When stateside, he was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. In November of 1966, he married the love of his life, Sue, and together on November 19th, would have been their 58th wedding anniversary.
He was extremely proud of being a U.S. veteran. He and Sue made many lasting friendships throughout those years. When he was discharged from the Navy, they returned to Sandusky. He started work at Sandusky Butter and Egg Company, first as a delivery driver and then in the sales force. He also obtained his Peace Officers certification and worked part-time for Erie County Sheriff's Department, Castalia Police Department, and Cedar Point. In 1977, he began working at the Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant, Oak Harbor, first in security and then transferred to mechanical maintenance where he became a journeyman. He was employed there until his time of retirement in 2007. He and Sue loved to travel and would always have lots of interesting stories about their adventures. He was a member of American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW. He loved fishing, both off the Jackson St. Pier and in his fishing boat. He loved watching NASCAR, loved his family pets, and most of all, his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Brindley; daughter, Cortney (Mike) Rogers; son, Kirk (Kate) Brindley; granddaughters, Alexandra and Katarina Brindley, Emily Rogers, Corinne Holm, and Alex Rogers; brothers, Scott (JJ), Mike (Kathy), and Tim (Vanessa); brothers and sisters in-law, Kelly and John Colley, Nancy Bell, and Tom and Peggy Armstrong; special nieces and nephews; and friends for many years and new found friends later in life, Jack and Brenda, Kathy and Steve, Joea and Neill, Bobbie and Chuck, and Chip and Pam.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; grandfather, Frank Buckingham; grandmother, Adele Fuhrman; mother in-law, Mary Armstrong; brother-in-law, Jerry Bell; and all of Dan's beloved pets.
