Daniel Cantu, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday morning, June 2, 2025, at home after a lengthy illness.
Daniel was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Daniel was a quiet man with a quick wit who enjoyed reading, Cleveland Indians baseball, old westerns, and Tejano music, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his three children, Steven Cantu of Columbus, Lisa (Jude) Gennari of Sandusky, and Fabian Cantu of Sandusky; one grandson, Blaise Gennari of Tennessee; sister, Alice Trimble of Port Clinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Alfredo and Antonia Cantu; Daniel is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (Maldonado) Cantu in 2023; son, Michael Cantu; sister, Paulita Cortez; brothers, Apolonio Cantu; Rodolfo Cantu and Oscar Cantu.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky, with Fr. Prashanth Kumar presiding. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemeteries of Sandusky.
