David Deehr Obituary

David Walter Deehr

Nov 9, 1945 - Mar 29, 2024

Milan

David W. Deehr, D.O., 78, of Milan, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, 2024, at Firelands Hospital, Sandusky.

He was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Sandusky, to Carl and Doris (Schaefer) Deehr. David met his wife, Judith (Myers), in high school and the two married in 1968.

David attended Perkins High School and was the first PHS athlete to score individually in the state swimming competition where he placed 7th in 1962 and 10th in 1963 in the breaststroke event. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Ohio State University and earned a scholarship on the swim team, lettering in his first year. David then transferred after his sophomore year to Kirksville State Teacher's College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude in 1971. After graduation, he did his internship and residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton and started a family.

They then moved back home to be closer to family and practiced at Fisher-Titus Medical Center for nearly 40 years. Known to many as "Doc Deehr," David was active in the community, donating time and expertise in support of the Edison High School athletics programs, little league softball and baseball teams, and Boy Scouts. An Eagle Scout himself, David served on the Executive Committees of Firelands Council and Heart of Ohio Council. David also served 16 years on the Berlin-Milan Local School District Board and 22 years on the Fisher-Titus Medical Center Board. He was a faithful man and served as Church Council President at Resurrection Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran Church, and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. In his spare time, David enjoyed fishing and hunting and attending his kids' and grandkids' sporting events. Some of David's most precious time was spent with his grandchildren, Andrea and Luke, and he enjoyed watching them grow up.

David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith; children, Rebecca, Rachel, and Jacob (Emily); grandchildren, Andrea and Luke; and siblings, Susan Rabbitt and Dale (Karol) Deehr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Doris Deehr.

David's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Firelands Hospital & DaVita Dialysis for their kindness, care, and guidance.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, until the time of David's service at 11 a.m., all at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St., Norwalk, Ohio, 44857. Pastor Ann Marshall will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in David's name to St. Peter Christian Day Nursery School, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.

Dr. Deehr was a pleasure to work with at FTMC surgery and recovery room. He cared about his patients and treated staff as family. I admired him him for this and his faith as well. He was so proud of his. He will surely be missed

I worked with Dr. Deehr in the early 1980s in the Recovery Room. He was the epitome of a gentleman, anesthesiologist, teacher and friend. I was blessed to have worked with him and I have fond memories. Peace to his family.

The Grand Poobah was a very proper nickname for Dr. Dave Deehr.
He was the heart and soul of the Department of Surgery, and much of the hospital, as an excellent anesthesiologist and medical staff member. He was both a great comic and critic, often at the same time, adding levity to many challenging situations.
His memory will live on for all of us who knew him at Fisher Titus Medical Center.

I had the privilege of working with Dr Deehr for 29 years in surgery. He watched out and helped all of the circulators. I remember when I first started call in surgery he was the anesthesiologist that worked with me. Very caring and helpful to the newbies. He was a great anesthesiologist and a good friend. He will be missed.
