David A. O'Doherty, 92, of Vermilion, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Kingston of Vermilion.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Melrose, Massachusetts, to John and Lucy O'Doherty. He was a member of U.S. Army reserves.
He graduated from Stoneham High School where he was captain of the hockey team where they played in the state championship at the Boston Gardens.
He retired after many years as the labor representative for Ford Motor Company.
He was an avid sports fan and golfer, loved following horse racing, and was an expert at the Black Jack table.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews in this area and in the Boston, Massachusetts, area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilah (Lang) O'Doherty in 2012; parents; sister, Lucy Ann Fayle; brother, Duane O'Doherty; stepdaughter, Ilah Ann Christofel; and stepson, Jack Bright.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, until the time of David's memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 37309 Harvest Ave., Avon, Ohio, 44011, or one's favorite charity.

My deepest condolences to the family. Everyone who came in contact with David adored him, and loved being with him at the bridge table, on the famous Lyman Dailah, or on the golf course. He lit up a room, and always had friends by his side who happily engaged in conversations with him because of his wit, wisdom and knowledge. There will never be anyone like him. He's already missed, he was my rock.
