David Voight Obituary

David A. Voight Sr.

Feb 18, 1942 - Jun 29, 2025

Sandusky

David A. Voight Sr., 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday evening, June 29, 2025.

He was born February 18, 1942, in Sandusky, to the late Alden Edward and Ione (Wheeler) Voight.

David graduated from Sandusky High School in 1960, where he earned All-Ohio honors as an offensive center and a football scholarship to the University of Michigan. He received his bachelor's degree in 1964 and his MBA from U of M Ross School of Business in 1965.

After graduating from the University of Michigan, David worked for Manufacturers National Bank in Detroit, Michigan. He later joined Central Security National Bank and City Bank in Lorain, Ohio. He spent the remainder of his career at Citizens Banking Company, now Civista, where he served as president from 1992 until his retirement in 2007. He then served as chairperson of the bank's Board of Directors.

In 2005, David was inducted into Sandusky High School Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2007 was inducted into Erie County Chamber of Commerce Gallery of Achievers for business and community service. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church of Union Corners. Behind the scenes, David used his financial expertise in the service of others.

The most significant community involvement for David was as a valued Trustee of Firelands Regional Medical Center Board (Firelands Health). His service from 1976 until his retirement from the Board in 2017 included leadership roles with Executive, Finance, and Governance Committees, among others.

David's universe was his family. He was a super fan of his sons' activities and sports and later could be seen in the auditoriums, bleachers, and sidelines supporting his grandchildren. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed rounds with family and friends. He was also a tireless supporter of University of Michigan and a fan of the Wolverines.

David is held dear by his wife of 56 years, Ann Schlessman Voight, whom he married June 21, 1969. He is cherished by his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jen Voight Jr. of Sandusky and Jonathan and Erin Voight of Rocky River; and his beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary, Genevieve and Evan Voight. He is lovingly remembered by extended family, and countless friends and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute in David's honor may do so to St. John's Lutheran Church, 106 Scheid Rd., Sandusky, Ohio 44870, Schlessman Family Legacy Fund c/o Erie County Community Foundation, 135 E. Washington Row, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, or University of Michigan Alumni Association, 200 Fletcher St., Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109-1007.
