Sandusky
Dewitt McDonald Sr., 88, of Sandusky, entered eternal rest Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at University Hospital in Elyria.
He was born October 16, 1936, to Ailey and Edna McDonald in Waynesboro, Mississippi. In 1953, he relocated to Sandusky and later became a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and lead bus driver. He loved the Lord and his church.
He attended Waynesboro High School and earned his GED and CDL license in Sandusky. He began his working career with Farrell Cheek Co., Waldock Packing Company, and Routh Packing Company, all in Sandusky. His final stop was Eckrich Meats in Fremont, from where he retired. Dewitt and his wife, Ella, purchased and rehabbed housing units to provide affordable housing for the community.
Dewitt Sr. is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ella Pearl; five children, Sharon McDonald-Butler., Atlanta, Georgia, Loretta (Robert) McDonald-Tillman, Sandusky, Dewitt McDonald Jr., Mansfield, Drs. Cynthia (Larry) DeVese, Westerville, and Lisa (Omar Sr.) McDonald; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five godchildren; five siblings; three in-laws; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ailey and Edna McDonald; his sisters, Ethel (Artie) McMillan, Gladys (Luther) Henson, and Marie McDonald; and his special brother, Grady McDonald.
All services will be at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky, where the Reverend Curtis L. Johnson Jr. is the Senior Pastor. The Wake Service will be Friday, January 24, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. Viewing hours at 11 a.m. until service at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025. Burial committal at Oakland Cemetery Chapel following the service.
