Donald C. "Big Don" Binting, 72, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, June 9, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1950, in Sandusky, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of George Frederick and Marilyn Jean (Richards) Binting. He was a 1969 graduate of Perkins High School.

Don was a realtor for 33 years and past member of the National, State, and Local Board of Realtors and Firelands Association of Realtors since 1978. He was an associate with JRW Realty, Dan Schiefley Real Estate, and Bill Lewis Realty. Don also worked for 23 years at Central News Company until the company downsized in 1996 and he also worked for a short time with San Bay Company.

Don always loved drag racing. In the 1970s, he won 1st place Top Eliminator in a national event at Dragway 42 at West Salem, Ohio, driving his 1966 Chevelle Super Sport he named "Moody Blue." He also enjoyed listening to music (old time rock and roll), watching football, fishing, golf, being outdoors, taking care of his yard, and watching Andy Griffith and Gun Smoke.

Don was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since the 1960s until its closing and was now a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Sons of AMVETS Post # 17 and Sandusky Eagles Aerie # 444.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Wise) Binting, whom he married July 21, 2000; sister, Gayle L. (Jay) Jones of Scottsdale, Arizona; and nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Marilyn J. Binting; sisters, Diane K. "Dee Dee" (Hoelzer) Binting and Barbara A. (Young) Binting; paternal grandparents, Alphons and Le Ella Binting; and maternal grandparents, Tony and Esther Olmstead.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Don's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the funeral home with Deacon Carolyn Steinfeldt officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
