Donald Day Obituary

Donald Duane Day

May 25, 1947 - Jul 12, 2025

Port St. Lucie, FL

Donald Duane Day, 78, residing in Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky,Ohio, following a lengthy illness.

Donald was born May 25, 1947, in Albion, Michigan, to the late Russell L. and Bernadine (Smith) Day.

Don graduated from Albion High in 1965 and pursued his education at Kellogg Community College, majoring in political science, before enlisting in the military. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country with honor from 1966-1970. Following his military service, Don dedicated many years to the transportation and logistics industry, working for various companies until his retirement from FedEx in 2003. After retiring, he channeled a strong entrepreneurial spirit into his own company, Tropic Thirst, which was a source of great pride for Don.

Family was his world and at the heart of everything he did. He poured his love and energy into each of them. His family will never doubt how deeply they were loved and how special each of them was to him. His wisdom and kindness guided those he loved, leaving them with memories and lessons that will last a lifetime.

Don and Peggy enjoyed their retirement years, splitting their time between their home in Florida and their summer home in Sandusky. He was an avid golfer who loved to play with family and friends. Don attended Calvary Port St. Lucie in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and was a lifetime member of Sandusky Elks Lodge No. 285, where he shared many good times with his friends.

Don is survived by the love of his life, Peggy (Hale) Day, whom he married February 22nd, 1997. His legacy lives on through his children, James Day, Eric (Tiffanie) Day, Carey (Wayne) Farrow and Amber (Matt) Price; cherished grandchildren, Brenden Day, Noah Day, Rosie Day, Ethan Day, Jaden Keys, Keren Keys, Laney Keys, Parker Price, Beckett Price, Callen Price and Bella Farrow; sister, Sandra (Phil) Konkle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by three of his siblings, James W. Day, Barbara J. Goodman, and Russell L. Day Jr.

A private Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
