Dorothy Schaffer Obituary

Dorothy Ann Schaffer

Nov 13, 1930 - Feb 23, 2024

Bellevue

Dorothy Ann Schaffer, 93, of Bellevue, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at her home.

Dorothy was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Bismarck, Ohio, to John and Veronica (Leis) Miller. She married Paul J. Schaffer on Oct. 9, 1954, at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church. Together, they raised their four sons in Bellevue. They celebrated 60 years together before Paul's death in June, 2015.

Dorothy was a graduate of Bellevue High School and worked at the General Electric plant while she awaited the return of her fiancé from military service. Along with raising her children, she volunteered in many activities in the schools and recreation department. Later, she worked at Woodard Photographic as a photographic artist and head of the art department.

Dorothy was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, sang in the choir, was the Spiritual Prayer Leader for St. Vincent DePaul, organized the laundry for altar linen team, was a member of the funeral luncheon team, and was a grade school gym teacher. She made her Catholic faith the center of everything she did.

Dorothy enjoyed playing sports including volleyball and tennis and attended any sport her children or grandchildren were in. She enjoyed crafts and especially enjoyed crocheting, making scarfs, hats, and numerous afghans. She was always ready to play cards and played almost daily with her husband. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her cookies. She was generous with all and will be missed by family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her four sons and their spouses, John and Tricia of Beverly Hills, Michigan, Steve and Kim of Silverdale, Washington, Greg and Pat of Whitehouse, and Jeff and Susan of Sylvania; 15 grandchildren, Brian (Catherine), Matthew (Amanda), David (Veronica), Rose (Nate), Lily, Drew, Kelly (Shane), Paul, Kevin, Ryan (Kate), Michael (Cassidy), Kyle, Casey, Justin, and Matthew; 11 great-grandchildren, James, Charlie, Jack, Noah, Max, Miles, Evan, Malcolm, Thyme, Liam and a boy in due in April; and siblings, Norma Miller Young and Harold Miller.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; grandson, Joseph; parents, John and Veronica; and siblings, Marcella Geiger, Wilma Bednarz, Bernie Daniel, Arden Miller, Harriet Hahler, the Rev. Elden Miller, and John Miller.

Visitation will be private. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bellevue. Family and friends are invited to join together following Mass in the church basement for a luncheon and celebration of Dorothy's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Immaculate Conception Church, St. Vincent De Paul, or charity of your choice.
