Douglas Leavell Obituary

Douglas C. Leavell

Feb 7, 1967 - Sep 2, 2025

Lorain

Douglas Clifford Leavell "Doug E. Fresh", 58, of Lorain, passed away suddenly of natural causes. He was born February 7, 1967, in Sandusky, to the union of Daniel I. Sr. and Lovey Anna (Coakley) Leavell.

Growing up on the south side of Sandusky, Doug attended Mills Elementary, Adams, and Jackson Junior High Schools. He was an active and engaged young man, participating in band, orchestra, Pythagoreans, and sports. He also enjoyed summer camp and served on the Junior Usher Board at the historical Second Baptist Church. After graduating from Sandusky High School in 1985, he served in the U.S. Army. He later returned home to be closer to his family, especially his grandma, Elsie C. (Coakley) Calamese, until her death.

Professionally, Doug held various positions but was most passionate about his work in construction. He took special pride in helping his dad with numerous projects. His dedication to his craft was evident in every task he undertook. Doug also enjoyed his hobbies, cooking, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, working on vehicles, and doing work on his childhood home. A dedicated sports fan, he loved watching Cleveland Cavaliers, Baltimore Ravens, and The Ohio State Buckeyes (minus Ryan Day).

Throughout his life, Doug maintained a quiet dignity and a gentle strength that those around him came to depend and rely upon. He was always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him dearly.

Doug is survived by his loving father, Daniel I. Sr.; brother, Daniel Jr. (Caroline); sister, Deanna ("Deetsie"); and godsister, Chandiss Harvey, all of Sandusky; along with a host of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Lovey Anna (Coakley) Leavell; brother, Eugene Lamont; aunts, Greta L. Marcus (Willie), Mamie E. Leavell, Rebecca B. Leavell, infant Leavell, and Betty J. Leavell Johnson (Curtis Sr.); and uncles, Charles E. (Thelma), Walker A. (Janice), Lewis C. (Aleatha), Leonard L. (Angela, LoDoris), and special uncle, Eugene D. (Beulah Mae) Leavell.

A social gathering will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home and Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.

The family requests that any donations be made to Toft Funeral Home & Crematory.
