Eileen "Dee" Shaffer, 83, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 at The Willows at Bellevue.
She was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Coalport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Fred and Annabelle (Irwin) Traveny.
Dee loved sports and the outdoors. At the age of 13, girls were not allowed to play baseball, so she cut her hair very short and went to play with the boys, having a great season. She coached little league baseball throughout her adult life for her sons and grandson, teaching them the mechanics of a good curveball.
Eilieen married Floyd Shaffer on Sept. 1, 1962, in Painesville, and he preceded her in death in 2006.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Shaffer of Bellevue and Shawn (Shadow) Shaffer of Tiffin; granddaughters, Stephanie Shaffer of Columbus and Samantha Shaffer of Tiffin; grandson, Seth Shaffer of Bellevue; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Shaffer Treat of Bellevue.
Dee was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott A. Shaffer in 2013; brother, Ed Traveny in 2014; and sister, Evelyn "Tiny" Traveny Janocko in 2019.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, until the time of Dee's funeral at 12 p.m. at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, 91 Rose Street, Irvona, Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at Fruit Hill Cemetery.
