Elizabeth Kromer Obituary

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Kromer

Apr 19, 1936 - Aug 1, 2024

Sandusky

Elizabeth C. "Betty" (Beechler) Kromer, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.

"If you left my home hungry, it's your own fault." Those words epitomized Betty's attitude about life. Everyone was welcome - friends, family, neighbors, and anyone who came to her door. In her neighborhood, she was known as "Mom" by all the kids who were fortunate enough to share in her kitchen's bounty and receive her overflowing kindness, graciousness, and love. She lived the true Christian life of service and compassion and will deeply be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Her strength did not desert her as she fought a brave and lengthy battle with dementia. During much of her struggle, she was able to stay in her home thanks to a staff of compassionate caregivers. She passed away at The Parkvue Community Nursing Home where she was also blessed with their warmhearted and understanding staff.

Betty was born in Castalia to Leroy and Anna Mae (Fischer) Beechler and was a 1954 graduate of Margaretta High School.

After raising her children, she enjoyed working outside the home. She first went to work at Decko Products and retired from Sandusky Plastics after many years of service.

Betty attended St. Mary Catholic Church, Sandusky, and was a member of First Congregational Church, Castalia. Even during her years at Parkvue, she still worshipped weekly at their Chapel with her family.

She is survived by her children, Betty J. Kromer, Loriann (Tim) Wilkes, Lisa (Mark) Bailey, Leslie "Homer" (Holly) Kromer, and Lynnette "Lucy" Kromer (Jim Kimberlin); grandchildren, Krista Mulvin, Lenny (Amy) Kromer, Ben Kromer, Justin (Amanda) Wilkes, Bruce (Mandy) Notestine, Emily (Marc) Bolen, Michael Kromer (Andria Zacharias), John Kromer, Haley Kromer, Dylan (Beth Anne) Hermes, and Madison (Mitch) McGuckin; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Nickle; brother, Sherwood "Mike" Beechler; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert G. Kromer in 1989; son, Leonard L. Kromer in 2021; grandson, Gilbert D. Kromer in 2014; and beloved friend and "side kick," Marie Severance in 2024.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, until the time of Betty's funeral at 10:30 a.m., all at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Justin Jump will preside. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter, 480 W. Dussel Dr. #140, Maumee, Ohio, 43537, or Parkvue Community, 3800 Boardwalk Blvd., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Parkvue Community for going above and beyond to care for their mother. Their love and compassion didn't go unnoticed and is sincerely appreciated.

Was very sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. I was given the honor of "getting" to know her while helping out with her caregiving in the association! We had some real laughs getting her ready for the evening, routine! I was sorry that I didn't get to say goodbye as I was out of town! "Betty, it was such fun getting to know you! Heaven, is in for a real Delight with you!" Say "Hello to Marie for me!" Jeannie Verhoff Friend
