Floyd Woodard Obituary

Floyd Lee Woodard

Nov 6, 1933 - Sep 19, 2023

Sandusky

Floyd Lee Woodard, 89, of Sandusky, made his transition to enter the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, passing peacefully at Stein Hospice Care Center with his family by his side.

He was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Jasper County, Mississippi, to Claude Lee Woodard and Annie May Woodard. He graduated from Tioch High School in 1953.

Floyd Lee worked for Ford Motor Company, Sandusky, retiring after 33 years. He also enjoyed working as the executive gardener and grounds keeper for the Dorn House, Sandusky, for 40 years, as well as working as greens keeper for Mills Creek Golf Course.

His life's passion was his daughter and grandchildren, traveling near and far no matter where they resided in or out of the country, followed by his love of golf, carrying a left-handed average of a 7. He played and taught the game he so loved. Even as he was in ICU at Cleveland Clinic, he took the time to teach and critique one of his nurses on his swing, positioning and wrist. If you knew Floyd he would have it no other way. He also bowled at Bonnie Lanes, Cedar Lanes, and Star Lanes, earning him multiple rings and championships throughout his career. His bold laughter and witty jokes would simply light up a room and all who crossed his path would forever be touched by a word of wisdom or life lesson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Nastashia "Tasha" Woodard (and son-in-love, Anthony T. Williams) of Saint Johns, Florida; son, Robert B. Baker of Rock Hill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Phillip Michael Thomas of Glen Burnie, Maryland, Brittni La'Que Branch of Poolesville, Maryland, and Trinity L. Baker of Rock Hill, South Carolina; great-grandson, Marcus Ryan Brooks of Poolesville, Maryland; sister, Aletha Larry of Pontiac, Michigan; brothers, Harold M. Woodard of Laurel, Mississippi, and Charles M. Woodard of Manhattan, New York; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beatrice D. Woodard; and sisters, Claudia Ann Moore, Ruby Nell Jones, and May Nell Newell.

The celebration of Floyd Lee Woodard's life will be Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the celebration at 11 a.m. Elder Weyman B. Stephens Jr. will officiate and Pastor Clayton E. Howard will be the eulogist. Entombment will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Prayers and condolences to the family and friends. I knew Mr. Floyd and Tasha for many years way back from Second Baptist days. He was always the same nice cheerful person with a joke to tell. He will truly be missed. God bless the family. R. I. P., Mr. Floyd.
