Galen Sayler Obituary

Galen E. Sayler

Apr 2, 1944 - Dec 3, 2025

Wakeman

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Galen Sayler, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and lifelong farmer, who was called back to the Lord Wednesday, December 3, 2025. He was 81.

Born and raised in Florence Twp., Galen spent his life rooted in the land he loved. A dedicated steward of the soil, he worked from sunup to sundown, tending his fields with quiet pride and unwavering perseverance. He later became the owner of Collins Elevator, where his honesty, hard work, and kindness supported not only his own family but countless farming neighbors who relied on him season after season.

Galen's greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a patient teacher, a steady shoulder, and a source of endless encouragement. Whether sharing stories around the kitchen table, watching the grandchildren grow, or lending a hand whenever needed, he lived each day with love, humility, and faith. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Susan, whom he bore with grace and whose memory he cherished deeply. We trust they walk together again in God's eternal embrace.

Galen is survived by his brother, Elwin Sayler (Nancy); sister, Aileen Calabrese (Tony); daughter, Gayle Kovach (Joe); son, Daniel Sayler (Kelly); grandchildren, Hallie Mossor (Ryan), Dillon Sayler, Katie Carroll (Nathan), and Kelsie Burgderfer (Kyle); and three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter, who will carry his legacy forward through the values he instilled: faith, family, hard work, and honesty.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue (Wentz) Sayler, whom he married April 3, 1966, in 2020; his parents, Melvin and Mary (Fredrick) Sayler; and his sisters, Eleanor and Norma "Dede" Sayler.

A celebration of life for Galen and Sue will begin at 1 p.m. January 18, 2026, at Collins Church, 4290 Hartland Center Rd., Collins. Friends and neighbors are welcome to join the family in remembering two great people who gave much and asked for little. May they rest in peace, and may their memory be a blessing to all who knew them.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to Collins Church in Galen's name.

Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper St., is handling arrangements.
