Gary "GB" Butler, 78, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 20, 2023, at Stein Hospice Care Center after a hard fought battle with Parkinson's disease.

Gary was born May 19, 1944, in Ironton, to the late Clyde and Rosalia (Frische) Butler.

Gary was a 1962 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of U.S. Air Force who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Gary was a Sergeant for Erie County Sheriff's department, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a past member of American Legion and current member of Orioles Club in Sandusky. Gary always loved football and lived for Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes games. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, and going to the casino with his wife.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy (Finley) Butler, whom he married Dec. 7, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Gary Allen (Tracy) Joiner of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Aaron and Sierra; two sisters-in-law, Laura Butler of Middleburg Heights and Anita Mickens of Sandusky; niece, Karoline (Justin) Maciak of Olmsted Falls; two nephews, Brent (Lori) Butler of Colorado and Brian Mickens of Fremont; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Colton, Reese, Daniel, Andrew, Sammy, and Trent; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy; brother, David Butler; mother-in-law, Lois Finley; and brother-in-law, Steve (Karen) Finley.

Friends may call 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, until the time of Gary's memorial service at 6 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Wally Gilbert will preside. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting family with arrangements.
