Gene D. Fresch, 93, of Sandusky passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023 at Firelands Hospital, Sandusky.

He was born on May 3, 1930 in Sandusky, the son of Felix and Dorothy Fresch. He attended Holy Angels School for his elementary education and later, Sandusky City Schools. The early part of his career began at Philco in Sandusky, where he met the love of his life, Juanita. Eventually going to work for Ford Motor Company, his hard work and perseverance paid off when the opportunity of a lifetime came about and he and the family transferred to Florida where he was employed by the Ford Aeronautical Division at Cape Kennedy. There were many proud moments and accolades during his tenure there; he spoke of it often and had plenty of stories to share along the way.

The roots of home brought him back to Sandusky and worked for General Motors Corporation/Fisher Body Elyria where he remained until retirement, earning one promotion after another. He was a champion of continued learning and furthering education while on the job. It showed with every achievement he was recognized for during his tenure at GM/Fisher Body Elyria. He earned several company-wide awards and was recognized often for his 'we can do better' attitude throughout his management career. Post retirement, he was hired by Maynards Auctioneers Liquidators & Appraisers as a Fisher Body key employee to assist with the final sale of machinery and equipment at the Fisher Body plant.

Gene had a true zest for living life to the fullest. He enjoyed people and made friends wherever he went. He loved to cook, garden, travel, fish on Lake Erie with cousins and friends and in Florida where he and Juanita spent their winters in retirement. He also was an avid sports fan. Anyone who knew him recognized his love-hate relationship with the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football and followed the Cleveland Indians since his youth. He had a gift of storytelling and if you were around him at all, you've heard at least one or better still, a joke. He never forgot a joke.

He loved his family, especially his beautiful wife of 73 years, Juanita; it was a love story like no other. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim (Dan) Gleason; grandchildren Dionne Fresch, Eric Fresch, and Alexandra (Grigore) Onica; great grandchildren Cecilia Wolf, Camille Karren, Reese Fresch, Dominic Fresch, Micky Fresch, and Carter Onica; several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Dorothy Fresch, son Gary G. Fresch, brother David Fresch, sister Mary Ann Lasnowski, and brother Robert Fresch.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 4 - 6 pm at David F Koch Funeral & Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating.
