Huron
George "Ed" Taylor, 81, of Huron, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 15, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born April 24, 1943, in Ontario, Canada, to George and Mary Taylor. He grew up on a farm where he learned how to work the land, milk the cows, hoe beans and corn, and pick strawberries and melons, all of which provided him with a sound work ethic that he continued for the rest of his life.
He pursued his education at Ashland College, earning a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with a minor in English. He continued his studies at Bowling Green State University, obtaining a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling.
Ed dedicated 35 years of his life as an esteemed teacher and coach at Huron City Schools, where he profoundly impacted the lives of his students and athletes, building lasting relationships that he deeply cherished. In 2019, he was inducted into the Huron High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach. His commitment to education and mentorship extended beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Outside of his professional life, Ed had a true passion for the outdoors that he shared with his children and grandchildren. He loved to teach them how to fish, value the land, and the importance of giving back to it. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he found solace and joy in nature's beauty and felt closest to God in the depths of the woods and the roll of the water. He cherished winters in Florida, where he fished and relaxed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Mary (Legando) Taylor; beloved children, Curtis (Jodi), Kristi, Casey (Jessica), Catherine (Amir), and Kevin; cherished grandchildren, Kendall, Jake, Chase, Kennedy, Carter, Laney, Kamran, Kasra, Andrew, Evelyn, Madelyn, and Lillian; and sisters, Bernice Hamler and Marilyn (Bill) Enderle. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he served.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Taylor Rose; and sisters, Norma Batch and Doris Taylor.
Ed's celebration of life service will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. with service beginning at 6:45 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, at Mesenburg's Hall, 545 Cleveland Rd. W., Huron, Ohio, 44839. Please bring stories and memories to share as we celebrate Ed's life.
