Bellevue
George Simon Woodard, 84, of Bellevue, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, after battling several illnesses as he was just days away from his 85th birthday. George was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Andover, Ohio. George was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Emma Woodard of Bellevue, Ohio; and sister, Martha Holloway of Hemet, California.
George is survived by his wife, Karen Jean (Edwards) Woodard; children, Christine (Brad) Kisabeth of Toledo, Ohio, Marc (Leslie) Woodard of Bellevue, Ohio, and Todd (Kristin) Woodard of Sylvania, Ohio; and loyal companion dog, "Faith." He was the proud grandfather of Sarah (Brett Bucher) and Jordan Kisabeth, Madison, and Landon Woodard, Morgan, and Taylor Woodard; and great-grandchildren, Jack and Henry Bucher.
George married his loving wife, Karen, his life-long companion of 63 years June 20, 1959, although they had been childhood sweethearts from the young age of seven. Affectionately known to the family and each other as Woody and Shammy, they had what could only be described as a storybook, "True Love" romance. Over the final years, George expressed his full appreciation and love for Karen's constant caring and life-long devotion as each other's one and only love.
After graduating from Bellevue High School in 1955, George became United States Youth Delegate to YMCA/YWCA Centennial World Conference in Paris, France, whereby he provided the devotions before the entire assembly. He attended University of Michigan (engineering) and graduated from The Ohio State University (B.S. in Education) and taught physics and math at John Marshall High School (Cleveland) and Bellevue Senior High School.
One of his proudest accomplishments were the class trips he organized to allow students to visit Chicago, Illinois, and attend The Museum of Science and Industry. In 1965, George and Karen co-founded Woodard Photographic whereby he utilized his engineering skills and love for photography to pioneer the use of front projection and mobile studio photography. He retired as President and CEO in 2002.
George was deeply religious and lived out his faith with purpose while attending The First United Methodist Church. He was also a very caring man who loved spending summers at their Lakeside cottage with his wife and family. He loved to travel, go camping, and upon retirement, became an avid model railroader.
To honor his life, family and friends will be received 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Bellevue First United Methodist Church with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Due to severe family allergies, it is requested that flowers not be gifted, but rather memorials be provided to Bellevue First United Methodist Church, 901 Northwest Street, Bellevue, Ohio, 44811, or The Lakeside Association in care of Religious Programming, 236 Walnut Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio, 43440.
