Harold Johnson Obituary

Harold Johnson

Apr 21, 1931 - Feb 2, 2026

Sandusky

Harold Johnson was called home Monday, February 2, 2026, at the age of 94.

Harold was born April 21, 1931, in Morris Chapel, Tennessee, to Daniel Johnson and Vera (McElrath) Johnson.

Harold lived a life defined by devotion, humility, and a deep love for those around him. He married the love of his life, Elsie M. Johnson, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.

Harold was a proud man who served as a steady mentor to those who looked to him for guidance and encouragement. His gentle humor, patient spirit, and generous heart left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was an active Mason for many years, dedicating his life to service, fellowship, and community values. Harold was also a committed participant in the Black Action Now Group (BANG), an organization that championed local minority rights in Sandusky. His involvement reflected his lifelong belief in fairness, dignity, and standing up for those whose voices needed to be heard.

Harold was a man of profound faith, serving as an active member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church until his health failed. In this, we find comfort in our time of loss. His belief in grace, hope, and the goodness of others guided the way he lived and the way he loved. That same faith now offers strength to those who mourn him, reminding us that his spirit rests in peace, and his legacy will continue to endure in every life he touched.

He is survived in death by his devoted wife of 73 years, Elsie Johnson; three adult children, Janice Davis, Joyce Johnson and Dannie Johnson; godson, Otis Harris; special nephew, Syvoid Sparks; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter; along with a host of family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Each of them was touched in a unique way by Harold's kindness, wisdom, and steady presence, and they remain grateful for the time they shared with him.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Floyd Johnson, Lelia Sparks, and Pauline Fuller; son, Jerry Sargent Sr.; and grandson, Damon Sargent.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Masonic Services will be conducted during the visitation at 10:30 a.m. by members of Progress Lodge No 85 F&AM. Entombment will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

He leaves behind not just a family, but a legacy of sacrifice, community-building, and unconditional love that will echo through the generations he so carefully nurtured.

Harold, your journey here on earth is done. The long battle is over. Rest in God's hands.
