Harry Stenzel Obituary

Dr. Harry A. Stenzel

Jun 15, 1937 - Jan 25, 2025

Sandusky

Dr. Harry Albert Stenzel, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated physician, passed away peacefully at home in Sandusky, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Detroit, Michigan June 15, 1937, Harry built a life filled with love, purpose, fun and adventure. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Aloysius; and his brother, Robert.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 wonderful years, Kathlyn; his children, Harley (Emily), Kristin (Todd), Kori (Rob), and Hunter (Marissa); and his cherished grandchildren, Henry, Vincent, Morgan, Zane, Taylor, Cooper, and Sadie.

Harry graduated from Wayne State University and completed his medical training at Des Moines University. He devoted over 30 years of his life to caring for children as a pediatrician in the Sandusky area. After retiring from his medical practice, he continued to serve others through volunteer work with American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, using his expertise to make a meaningful impact on communities in need.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Harry embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He loved to travel, act in local productions, play tennis, ride rollercoasters, play games, and enjoy time with family and friends over good (enough) wine. Known for his sense of humor and willingness to "stir the pot," Harry brought joy to those around him while dedicating himself to causes close to his heart.

May his memory bring joy and inspiration to those he touched, as he truly lived the life he wanted. Raise your hands on the highest hill of the fastest coaster or your glass with a splash of wine and think of Harry with a twinkle in his blue eyes, wishing all who knew him TTFN.

A reception and celebration of Harry's life will be from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with a short service at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harry's memory to Stein Hospice, Harlequins Community Theatre, The Merry-Go-Round Museum, or American Red Cross-organizations that reflect his passion for service, community, and fun. Condolences may be shared online at toftfuneralhome.com.

The world is a sadder place without Harry in it. I knew him from Harlequins, where he was and will be forever my Pope.

Harry was a long time family friend of my husband's parents...and then my husband and I. Harry was our daughter's pediatrician.....and as a young first time Mother, I'm sure I drove him nuts with all my phone calls/ questions! He was just a lovely, caring soul that is going to be missed but never forgotten!

My sincere condolences to Dr. Stenzel's family. During one of our trips to the Memorial Hospital ER when my kids were growing up, he put a cast on my daughter's broken leg. All the while singing "Yellow Submarine" to her. My girl is now almost 62, but still remembers this. He was wonderful with my accident prone kids.

Dr. Stenzel was kind, compassionate and caring. He was there for both of our children throughout their younger years and I always knew that he would help us in a way that didn't scare them, but was very effective in treating them. Those are two things that go together and he had a great ability to combine them.....not every doctor has that skill. Thank you, Dr. Stenzel!

So sorry to hear of Dr Stenzel´s passing. I was a Peds nurse at Memorial Hospital and Firelands Hospital and worked alongside Doc for many years. A great Dr and person. He taught me a lot of what I know to this day. May he rest in peace

So very sorry to hear of Harry´s passing...we thoroughly enjoyed being around him at Baywinds tennis club and at the many get togethers we had and more recently at Strickfaden park during his and Kathleen´s walks. He was one of a kind. May God bless his family! Jeff and Susie Brandts

So sorry to see the passing of Harry. He was such a great fun guy. We first met when we all lived at Executive Shores back in 1966. Great fun times! My thoughts are with you.
