Helen Ruth (Berkey) Knupke, 96, of Huron, joined her husband, Wayne, in Heaven on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023.
She was born June 20, 1926, in Penfield, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of George and Sarah (Liddick) Berkey. She married Wayne Knupke on Sept. 1, 1945, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sandusky.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She worked at the former Hinde and Dauch, Philco, and as cafeteria manager for Huron High School. Helen loved gardening, playing pinochle, collecting angels, and cooking for family get-togethers. In her younger days, she and Wayne were members of Belles and Bows Square Dance Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Eileen (Charles) Jenkins; son, Owen Knupke and companion, Judy Mularoni; five grandchildren, Julie (Delbert) Kyer, David (Kim) Jenkins, Sara (Eric) Matz, Angela (Eric) Szunyogh, Andrea (Donnie) Boaz; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Maryella Check of Oregon.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, who passed away Aug. 6, 2017; daughter, Judy Knupke; sisters, Mabel Gilbert, Margaret Jesberger, Gladys Merrick, Lois Huff, and Gladine Berkey; and brothers, Raymond Berkey, Edward Berkey, and Robert Berkey.
Friends may call 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, until the time of Helen's funeral at 11 a.m. at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Pastor Dave Brown will officiate. Entombment will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
