Helen Muriel (Carpenter) Shaw, 87, a long-time resident of Castalia who lived in Orange City, Florida, for the last 20-plus years, passed away surrounded by family Friday, March 10, 2023.
Helen was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Webster County, West Virginia, to Vesta and William Carpenter. She moved to Huron and graduated from Huron High School. Helen was married to David Shaw for 67 years, having four children together. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing cards, and was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband, David; sisters, Janet (Carpenter) Kennedy and Shirley (Carpenter) Carney; sons, David E. Shaw and Timothy (Sarah) Shaw; son-in-law, Jerry Schloesser; grandchildren, Jamie (Shaw) Huffman, Dana (Shaw) Chisholm, Jason Schloesser, Julie (Shaw) Evans, Ryan Schloesser, Owen Shaw, Chelsea Schloesser, Casey Shaw, and Whitney Landis; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth (Carpenter) Carter; daughter, Deborah (Shaw) Schloesser; and son, Gregory Shaw.
Contributions can be made to Hospice.
A graveside service will be at Scott Union Cemetery, Huron, at a later date.

Just going through me Christmas list and was wondering about Helen, my long time partner on Monday Night Ladies league at Sleepy Hollow.
I was so sorry to she has passed. she was a wonderful lady. We had many good times together golfing.

We love you Grandma, so much. I miss calling you on my lunch breaks. Thank you for always being there for me. The last thing you said to me was "I love you, I always have and I always will", I love you too grandma. Give my mom big hugs for me up there.
