Hugo Moras Obituary

Hugo L. Moras

Apr 10, 1948 - Jan 26, 2023

Sandusky

Hugo L. Moras, 74, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, from complications of kidney disease.

Hugo was born April 10, 1948, in Miami, Florida, to Hugo D. and Maria (Moreno) Moras. Raised in New Jersey, he graduated from Don Bosco Prep School, attended Seton Hall University, and went on to John Marshall School of Law, where he earned his law degree. After law school, Hugo settled in New Jersey and spent two years working for a Defense law firm. In 1977, he started his own firm specializing in Chapter 13 & 7 Bankruptcy cases, Personal Injury, Family Law, and Workers' Comp. He also worked Pro bono on behalf of battered wives. Hugo retired in 2015.

Hugo was very active in his Parish, serving as Eucharistic Minister, as well as MC of the pre-canon program for eight years. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight of his Councils for two years.

Hugo coached his son's soccer team for many years. He loved watching the boys grow into confident young men through teamwork. He felt blessed to have spent so many special times with his son, the third Hugo of the Moras family.

Hugo is survived by his wife, Kathy Ries Friebis-Moras, whom he married Nov. 28, 2021; son, Hugo Christian (Lauren Lebo); and sister, Lissa (Robert) Swanson, all of New Jersey. Hugo was loved and cherished by his stepchildren, Amy (Jim) Arquette, Jeff (Bianca) Jackson, Christie (Craig Wenninger) Krauzer, and Tom Krauzer; their families; brother-in-law, Tom (Velda) Ries; sister-in-law, Shauna (Genna Murphy) Ries; and father-in-law, Edward O. (Grace) Ries.

Hugo was preceded in death (just eight months ago) by his father, Hugo Dominico; mother, Marie, in 2015; and brother, Christopher, in infancy.

At his request, Hugo was cremated and will be remembered in a celebration of life gathering at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Groff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1607 E. Perkins Ave, Sandusky.
