Jack L. Baker Sr., 81, of Toledo formally of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at his residence after a short illness.
He was born in Springfield, Kentucky, Nov. 24, 1942, to the late John Edward and Mary Katherine (Brown) Baker. He graduated from Rosenwald High School in Lebanon, Kentucky. At an early age, he was baptized at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Springfield. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. While in the Army he was a communications specialist and served in Vietnam. After leaving the Army, Jack moved to Sandusky, working several jobs before moving to Toledo in 1975 to work for Chrysler Jeep.
Jack loved watching Cleveland Browns, westerns, boxing, baseball, playing cards, fishing, working on cars and being with family.
He is survived by his sons David Harper of Lorain, Jack (Ashley) Baker Jr. of Toledo; three grandchildren, Trinity Baker of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Quinten Harper and Jaiden Harper of Lorain; brothers, Dillard B. (Mary) Baker Sr., Louisville, Kentucky and Charles S. (Donna) Baker, Sandusky; a sister Mary Nell Clark, Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Mary Katherine (Brown)Baker; sisters Rooney L. Breland and Mae Antoinette Tonge; brothers, John E. Baker Jr., Allen Baker, Robert B. Baker, James "Fred" Baker and Rudolph V. (Doc) Baker, Sr.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced.
American Cremation Events, Toledo is assisting the family with arrangements.
