James R. "Jim" Green, 89, of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at Stein Hospice after a brief illness.

He was born March 28, 1934, in Berlin Heights, and called Vermilion home for the last eight years, having previously resided in Birmingham.

Jim embarked on his professional journey with Lorain Telephone, later becoming Century Tel and subsequently Century Link, where he dedicated 32 years of service before retiring in 1997. In addition to his career, he also devoted over a decade to farming.

A committed community member, Jim served on Florence Fire Department from 1955-1972 and achieved the role of chief for three years. He found solace and joy in attending Florence Church, gardening, tending to his yard, tinkering on projects and electronics, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine (Dan Bellis) Smith of Vermilion and Sarah "Sally" (Harvey) Mann of Birmingham, Ohio; granddaughter, Faith Henry and Tabitha (John) Myers; and great-grandson, Jacob Myers.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Arlynn "Lynn" J. Green; parents, George and Lily (nee Derby) Green; daughters, Sherry Green and Deborah Henry; son-in-law, John "Bubba" Smith; great-granddaughter, Lily Myers; brothers, Louis, Elton, Donald, and Joseph Green; and sisters, Mary Louise Bostater and Ruth Bostater.

Jim's celebration of life will be at a later date. Private inurnment will be at Birmingham Cemetery.
