James A. Hunsicker, 80, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Friday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2022, at his home after a sudden illness.
James was born April 15, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Harold Yundt and Alice Margaret (Kerns) Hunsicker. He attended Rhodes High School in Cleveland and graduated from Ken High School in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. Jim worked at New Departure-Hyatt Inc. (a Division of General Motors) as an engineer for over 30 years.
His family will remember him as a talented musician since his high school days, his instrument being the clarinet, and how over the years he had been involved with three community bands, the Northcoast Band, the Vermilion Band and the Vacationland Band for many years. Jim also enjoyed cycling and was a member of "Firelands Wheels" for quite some time. He found great comfort in being in the outdoors, going on walks, cross-country skiing, and any other activities that dealt with taking in nature and his surroundings.
He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Sandusky, where he sang in the choir, served on Session Committee, and was Treasurer for the church over the years. Jim was passionate about helping others both in and outside the church and volunteered with Serving our Seniors in delivering meals.
Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn W. (Carlisle) Hunsicker; two daughters, Julie A. (Phillip) Ideh of Baltimore, Maryland, and Lisa L. (Jason) Printy of Port Clinton; two granddaughters; two sisters, Patricia Tiito of Wheaton, Illinois, and Susan (Richard) Dryburgh of Poland, Ohio; brother-in-law, Vance (Bonnie) Carlisle of Monroeville; and his nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Holly Hunsicker; brother-in-law, Bruce Carlisle; and nephew, Keith Dryburgh.
