James McAuley Obituary

James Ryan McAuley

Apr 2, 1985 - Oct 20, 2022

Flushing, New York

James Ryan McAuley unexpectedly passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, in New York City, New York.

He was born April 2, 1985, in Sandusky. He was a 2003 graduate of Sandusky High School. James furthered his studies at University of Toledo and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Queens College in New York. There, he was honored to be selected to begin teaching in Teach America Program. James continued his education graduating from Long Island University with a Master of Science in Education in 2017. James brought his love of learning to teaching as an intervention specialist and history teacher at Brooklyn School of Arts in Brooklyn, New York. He truly enjoyed working with the youth of the New York City area and became a leader of clubs and also dedicated himself to teaching summer school.

James was known as Jimmy to his friends, but to his loving family, he was called, "Bubba." That name was given to him, the first grandchild, from his pop, Gene Ryan. He loved his family and had a special relationship with his mom, Cindy. One would say they were, "Two Peas in a Pod!" Uncle James had a soft spot in his heart for his nephews, who he absolutely adored! He will be remembered for his kind heart, witty personality, love of learning things from History to Philosophy, and of course as an avid New York Yankees fan!

James is survived by his father, James H. McAuley Sr.; brother, Patrick (Natascha) M McAuley Sr.; nephews, Michael C. Lochotzki III, Patrick M McAuley Jr., Ryan M McAuley, Collin J McAuley, and Evan G McAuley; aunts, Patricia A Ryan (Joel Woodruff), Mary G (Jeff) McAuley Nella, and Patricia A (Bruce) McAuley Neier; great-aunt, Sharon Ryan Stidham; and cousins, Jesselyn (Zachary and Eleanor) Ryan Taylor, Madison Ryan VanBarg (Lucille and Brandon Reppucci), Kelli (Bryan) Stidham Jelinger, Steven Neier, Nicholas (Kara) Neier, Robert Neier, Caitlin Neier, Anne (Tony) Cataldo-Nella Pagliuca, Christina (Michael) Cataldo-Nella Beauchamp.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia M (Ryan) McAuley; maternal grandparents, Gene W and Geraldine (M Patton) Ryan; paternal grandparents, James E and Margaret (Hammond) McAuley; uncle, Peter T McAuley; and great-uncle, Berry Stidham.
