James Cleven Murphy Jr., 59, of Toledo passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 30, 2024, after a brief illness.
James Jr. was born Jan. 16, 1965, to James (JC) and Anna Murphy.
James, known as "Jr." to family and "Murph" to friends, accepted Christ at an early age at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Sandusky, under the late Rev. Fred Tucker.
James enjoyed cooking, jazz music, and all sports, and especially them Cleveland Browns. He loved his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and just good people. He served proudly in U.S. Air Force, retiring in 2003 after 20 years of service. He recently retired in 2024 from Jeep in Toledo after 30 years of dedicated service.
He married his forever love, Dorian (Powell) Murphy - "Lovey" as he affectionately called her - on July 30, 2022. James and Dorian were in LOVE-LOVE.
Unfortunately, Dorian passed away March 21, 2023, from complications due to a fire at their home. James was left heartbroken.
James leaves to honor his legacy his son, Brice Murphy; daughter, Jaiya Murphy; grandchildren, Ja'Niya, Brice Jr., and Heaven; stepchildren, Damir Lee, Trinity, and Terrence Dabner, all of Toledo; mother, Anna; brothers, Jeffery (ShaConda) Murphy of Sandusky and Daryl (Jennifer) Murphy of Detroit, Michigan; favorite nieces and nephews, Marce Collier, Darious Randleman, Darryl Murphy II, Tamala Perryman, Nichole and Tierra Hunter, and Tahj Murphy; bonus kids, Mikayla and Kristopher Willams; Godsisters, Loretta (Roger) MacDonald-Tillman, Mary (Vincent) Elliot, and Emmico (Jerome) McCarty; special friends, Alphius White Jr., Greg Gaitor, John T. Darden Jr., Tony Crosby, Brian White, and Marlon Crook; Toledo family, Kenny (RIP) Juana Wade, Dave Springs, Chuckie Moran, Leonard Wilson, Curt McDuffie, Scotty Thompson, and Allen Sherer (RIP); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorian; father, James Sr.; a sister in infancy; grandparents, Joe (Florence) Murphy Sr. and Albert (Lure Dee) May; great-grandparents, Samual (Sinnie) Irby Sr.; and Godparents, Deanni (Annie) Card and Charles (Toni) Holliday.
James will be missed by all who loved him including his Sandusky family, Toledo family, and Jeep family.
He's now reunited with his wife, Dorian, in "Heavenly Matrimony."
Visitation will be 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky.
James' service will be 12 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at The Refreshing House, 2500 Nebraska Ave., Toledo. Interment will be at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, 1540 W. Central Avenue, Toledo. Military honors will be observed.
Repass will be at Scott Park Banquet Hall, 2541 Nebraska Ave., Toledo.
Arrangements are being handled by The House Of Day Funeral Services, Toledo.
