James Rausch Obituary

James D. "Jamie" Rausch

Oct 18, 1948 - Jun 11, 2024

Huron

James "Jamie" Rausch, 75, of Huron, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at home.

Jamie was a great man who had many friends beyond his family and enjoyed sitting back to have a beer to discuss life. He was a very skilled and talented mechanical fabricator who could fix anything and created magical artwork with his hands (and his trusty welders). Jamie would stop on the drop of a dime to help anyone with any type of project, problem, or favor at any time during the day. He was just that type of great human being who had friends anywhere he went.

Jamie was a 1966 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a retired Air Force Vietnam veteran, serving from 1969-1973 as Sergeant and a Sandusky Football Hall of Fame Inductee for the "Sensational 60's," the 1966 football team. Jamie worked at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky as a Certified Maintenance and Tool and Die Welder for 36 years which he retired from in 2021.

His hobbies included fishing, racing, Cleveland sports (through thick and thin, even if he was just a child when the Indians and Browns last won a championship – "There's always next year!"), tinkering, caring and loving his cherished dogs, supporting and spending time at VFW, Amvets, and Eagles, hanging out with family and friends, and working on projects at the compound with one of his best friends, Dave Koehler.

Jamie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leah "Scherer" Rausch; sons, Josh (Kim) Rausch and Jeremy (Amanda) Rausch; mother-in-law, Peggy Scherer; sister-in-law, Linda Scherer; brother-in-law, Gregg Scherer; nieces, Nikki and Kristi Scherer; dogs, Trinity and Callie; and many very important and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Rausch; mother, Effa Rausch; brother, Jerry Rausch; aunt, Mary Ann "Mar Mar" Failor; uncle, Hugo Schaufelberger; and father-in-law, John C. Scherer.

Visitation for friends will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Castalia Cemetery. Pastor David Enzman will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Erie County Humane Society or Back to the Wild Inc.

Great man very friendly and warm personality. I was gifted with the brief opportunity to meet him and allow him to enjoy my food creations. I will miss the talks about mushrooms for sure. My prayers go out to his entire family....
