James Ryan Obituary

James T. Ryan

May 5, 1942 - Mar 29, 2024

Sandusky

James T. "Jim" Ryan, 81, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday afternoon, March 29, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.

Jim was born May 5, 1942, in Genoa, to Charlotte Ryan.

Jim was a 1960 St. Mary's High School graduate. He gladly retired from Ford Motor Company in Sandusky in 2003 after 39 years as a tool and dye maker. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cushman Club of America, and Sandusky Bonsai Club. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He took great pride in taking care of his lawn, enjoyed sitting at the Jackson St. pier, his classic car, and hanging out with the rat pack. Following the death of his wife Maggie, Jim found great comfort with the local AA recovery community.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Christine Bradley of Sandusky; three sons, Bob (Bev) Ryan of Milan, Thom Ryan of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Craig (Michelle) Ryan of Oak Island, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Julie Ryan of Sandusky; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, wife, Margaret "Maggie" (Coleman) Ryan in 2019; and son, Michael J. Ryan in 2018.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, Stein Hospice Services Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or one's favorite charity.

to Bob, Thom, Craig and Christine,
So sorry to hear of the unexpected death of your dad. We have good memories of all the old times when we would get together. I miss your mom very much also. Please accept our sympathy. Sorry we couldn´t be at the funeral home to visit with you at this time. Love to all of you and your families. I hope these photos will bring back some good memories. Bless you all
