James W. "Jim" Stewart

James W. "Jim" Stewart, 72, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 30, 2024, with family at his side at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Norwalk, the son of Berton Chester and Jeanette Marilyn (Hoffman) Stewart. Jim was a 1969 graduate of Perkins High School. He worked for 44 years as a machinist at Sandusky Foundry and Machine Co., later known as Sandusky International and MetalTek International, where he retired in 2012.

Jim loved the family and grandchildren and attending their numerous activities and sporting events over the years. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and working in his yard. Jim will be remembered in the area for being an Oxford Twp. Trustee for 30 years (1994-2024).

He was a lifelong member and volunteer with Oxford Hustler 4-H Club, Berlin Township Conservation Club, and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Milan.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Deborah K. (Halsey) Stewart, whom he married Aug. 7, 1976; son, Dan (Nancy) Stewart of Monroeville; daughter, Kelly (Andy) Maynard of Woodville; three grandchildren, Owen and Jessah Stewart and Ryan Maynard; sister, Karen (Alan) Hejmanowski of Dublin, Ohio; brother, Robert (Nancy) Stewart of Monroeville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael R. Stewart; and two nephews, Berton Michael Stewart and Grant Williams.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, and 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, until the time of Jim's funeral at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Road, Milan. The Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney will officiate. Burial will be at St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Milan.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Don and I have such great memories of you. Don more so since he worked with you at the Foundry. We just can't believe you have left us, and we will miss you!
