Janny J.M. Cummings, 81, Sandusky, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025. She was a devoted mother and wife and will be deeply missed by her family.

Janny was born in Den Haag, Netherlands, April 27, 1944, to Jan and Johanna Korte. She met her future husband in the Netherlands while he was serving in the United States Air Force, and they married December 12, 1966. Shortly afterwards, they moved to the United States, and she enjoyed telling that her first experiences in this country included the horrors of root beer and the Ohio summer heat. Her children followed as well as many moves around Ohio until settling in Sandusky.

Janny was an avid knitter who, after raising her children, joined knitting groups and quilting groups to pursue her passion creating teddy bears, dolls, crèches, and more sweaters and socks than there are days in the year. In addition, after raising her children, she traveled around the world with her husband, seeing places as populated as China and Egypt and as remote as Easter Island and the Australian outback and everything in between.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dan Cummings; her children, JoAnn Cummings (Doug Myers) and Tony (Tina) Cummings; and her grandchildren, Gabe, Josh, and Zach. Her memory will be carried with them.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no services. Her family will celebrate her life privately and through their accomplishments and lives. The family has entrusted Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory with arrangements.
