Jay Leroy Bickley Jr., 96, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at Parkvue Healthcare Center after a brief illness.

Jay was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Sandusky, to Jay and Marie (Ocker) Bickley Sr.

Jay graduated from Sandusky High School in 1945. He was a veteran of U.S. Army who proudly served his country during World War II. He was co-owner of several local contracting businesses, known as Tru-Wall and Midwest Construction. He also was co-owner of Variety Village, a local beverage drive thru center. Jay was also employed and retired as a union carpenter. He was a lifetime member of Sandusky Elks Lodge, Amvets, and American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and was an avid boater.

Jay is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane Bickley (Dise) of Sandusky; children, Jay (Judy) Bickley, Daniel (Cindy) Bickley, and Beth (Doug) Barnett; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jamie Bickley; grandson, Jayson Bickley; and sister, Nora Lee Bickley.

Private graveside services will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jay's life starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Marblehead VFW #7572, 421 West Main St., Marblehead, Ohio, 43440.
