Jeanette M. "Jeannie" Ruffing

Jan 31, 1938 - Oct 16, 2025

Sandusky

Jeanette M. "Jeannie" (Pohlman) Ruffing, 87, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Thursday morning, October 16, 2025, surrounded by her family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

Born January 31, 1938, in Sandusky, the daughter of Vincent Leo and Luella Theresa (Kroeger) Pohlman. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a graduate of Providence School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. Jeannie had worked at Providence Hospital for over 30 years before retiring.

She will be remembered by her family as being an avid Cleveland Indians fan, as well as how she enjoyed crocheting and especially making blankets for all of her grandchildren and other family members throughout the years. Also, over the years, she had enjoyed bowling and working on hidden word search games.

Jeannie was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was involved with the bereavement committee.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce A. Sehlmeyer of Sandusky; her grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Sehlmeyer of North Royalton, Jessica Sehlmeyer of Sandusky, Jodi (Michael) Satterfield of Willards, Maryland, and Ashlee (Daniel) Norrup of Huron; her five great-grandchildren, Cohen Nemitz, Madelynne Satterfield, Payson Sehlmeyer, Emily Sehlmeyer, and Kinzie Norrup; a brother, David (Dolores) Pohlman of North Ridgeville; a sister-in-law, Arlene Pohlman of Columbus; and her nieces and nephews.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lucille (Tremper) Pohlman; her husband of 49 years, Raymond A. "Ray" Ruffing, December 19, 2008; sons, Robert A. (1965) in infancy and Roger R. Ruffing (2011); a daughter, Janine M. Korte (2008); a brother, Herman Pohlman; and her sister, Mary Ann Booth.

Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, with North Ohio Lake Erie Nurse Honor Guard holding a tribute service at 6:30 p.m. at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday morning, October 27, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Interment will be later at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Mary's Central Catholic High School Tuition Fund or Central Catholic Athletic Boosters, 410 W. Jefferson Street, Sandusky, OH 44870 or Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.

I will miss you forever grandma. Watch over us and tell Grabdpa, Janine, Roger, grandma and grandpa s and all our other family and friends we said hello. Life will not be the same without the foundation of our family. Thank you for being the absolute greatest nurse and medical advisor in our lives and the best person to help me through all the things I´ve dealt with. I love you forever, grandma.Rest in Heaven.
