Jessie L. "Jess" Born, 56, of Amherst, died Wednesday June 28, 2023, after a long battle with brain cancer.

She was born June 21, 1967, in Oberlin, and was a 1985 graduate of Firelands High School where she was president of FFA, homecoming queen, and a cheerleader. Jess spent most of her life living in Henrietta Twp. where she grew up and worked for the family farm, H.A. Born Farms and Agricultural business, Born Implement. Jess graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Poultry Science. Jess was an animal lover. She raised chickens and pigs, loved to spend time watching hummingbirds and cardinals in her backyard, and referred to her pets as her "fur family."

Jess was an extremely creative and artistic person. When she wasn't spending quality time with her children and grandson, she loved journaling, jewelry making, enjoying nature, listening to all genres of music (especially 80's rock), drawing and coloring, and collecting antiques and trinkets. One of her nicknames was "Blinger" because she always wore a ton of jewelry and had such a unique and eccentric style. Despite the hardships Jess faced throughout her life, she was a natural comedian and always made it a goal to make others smile and laugh. During her stays in the hospital, she would have handwritten notes and gift bags lined up for every health care worker who crossed her path. Even battling brain cancer, Jess was always thinking of others. That was just in her nature. To know her was to love her.

She is survived by her children, James Edward Alexander and Lois Marie Rotuno; grandson, Mason Allen Alexander; mother, Jessie Phillips (Livermore); brother, Butch (Anne) Born; cousin, Matthew Born; "fur family," Bowser and Waterboy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard A. Born Jr.; brother, Edward L. Born; uncle, Phillip L. Born; niece, Lindsey M. Rotuno; maternal and paternal grandparents; and beloved dog, Sal.

Jess' celebration of life will be 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2023, at New Russia Township Lodge, 46300 Butternut Ridge Rd., Oberlin.
