Joan L. (Spoerr) Shank, 94, Sandusky, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Parkvue Healthcare Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Sandusky, to Lloyd "Doc" and Alma (Heinzerling) Spoerr.

Joan was a graduate of Sandusky High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

She was the secretary at Spoerr Precast Concrete for many years.

She is survived by her children, Barbara (Richard) Schuley of Seymour, Indiana, and William "Bill" Shank and Robert "Bob" (Joannie) Shank, both of Sandusky; grandchildren, Benjamin Schuley, Laura (David) Luna, Aaron (Sandy Minton) Shank, and Matt (Stacy) Thomsen; and great-grandchildren, Eloise Luna, Landon, and McKenzie Thomsen.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Tom R. Shank, in 2009; parents; daughter, Susan; grandson, Douglas Schuley; and sister, Joyce.

Visitation for friends will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, until the time of Joan's funeral at 1 p.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Mel Sayler will officiate. Private burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff and aides of Parkvue Healthcare Center for the love and care they gave their loved one during the time she was with them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105-9959.

Krista Schwarz and family send their most heartfelt condolences to Barb, Bill and Bob. In this time of remembrance, we reflect on the many occasions when Joan welcomed us into her home to share family memories and create new ones. Max and Lexi remember her warmth and enthusiastic support in family piano recitals. Joan´s positive spirit and unbounded energy lifted us all. The family of Linda (Heinzerling) Kosbab share their condolences to the Shank family in Joan´s passing. The memories run deep from Joan´s participation in Buzz and Linda´s wedding to the family visits with Tom and Joan over the years and flying with Uncle Doc in his airplane.
